Mick Campbell - The Glasgow Warrior
THE GLASGOW WARRIER
From a successful career in rugby playing for the Glasgow Warriors and Jersey Reds, Nick Campbell, is now trading punches in the world of boxing. After retiring from rugby in 2017, Scottish born Campbell now 31yrs seized the opportunity to follow in his grandad’s footsteps, a former pro boxer in the 1950’s, and forge a new career in professional boxing. Having boxed from an early age Campbell’s new chosen career path is second nature to him. Realising and taking pro boxing more seriously his skills have been further sculptured by local coaches Dave Lund, Ben and Allan Murray. Giving good solid advice and help whenever he needed it. Standing 6ft 7 and fighting in the super-heavy weight division Campbell is a formidable force to be reckoned with winning his debut pro fight against Petre Frohlich in April this year. As far as training goes Campbell explains
“The best thing when I’m training in Jersey, is I’m alongside good people who have my best interests at heart. I’m still based here but to have a good shot at the pro circuit I need to travel and get top-level sparring. I want to fight as much as possible in the next two years and hopefully have 10 victories under my belt by the end of 2022”.
Reflecting on his life journey so far Campbell explains
‘Life is short and if the past year has taught me anything is chase your dreams and see where they take you. A few people have messaged me and told me that they have found my transition from pro rugby to pro boxing really inspiring and encouraged them to get back to doing something they love. That for me is the biggest victory of all. You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take.”
